Being asked to MC a wedding can be an honour - but for a lot of people, it’s also a bit terrifying. Not everyone’s comfortable with a microphone in hand, managing the energy of the room, or keeping things running smoothly when things go off track.
That’s why many couples now choose to hire a professional MC - someone who knows how to read a crowd, work with the venue and vendors, and gently keep things moving without stealing the spotlight.
As a celebrant who’s already helped guide you through your ceremony, I can also be the person who guides your reception - warmly, professionally, and with just the right amount of personality.
The MC (or Master of Ceremonies) is essentially your event host. I’ll help ensure your reception feels seamless, intentional, and well-paced — so that you (and your guests) can relax and enjoy every moment.
Some of the key things I take care of:
Welcoming your guests and setting the tone
Introducing speakers, toasts, and formalities
Liaising with the venue, caterers, photographer, and DJ to keep the flow right
Helping your guests know what’s coming up and where they need to be
Keeping the vibe light, the energy up, and the logistics on track
Diffusing any awkward silences, delays, or hiccups with grace
Unlike your cousin’s mate who’s halfway through the wine list before the mains have arrived, I remain completely sober and fully professional for the entire event.
That means I’m present, sharp, and in control - ready to manage unexpected changes, adapt to the vibe of the room, and make sure everything stays on track. You won’t catch me winging it, disappearing for a smoke, or telling that one story that goes on for five minutes too long.
When you book me as your MC, you’re getting someone who takes the role seriously - with warmth, humour, and care.
Yes - and it actually works beautifully.
If we already know each other from the ceremony planning, I can carry that connection right through into the reception. I’ll already know your story, your tone, and your vibe - and your guests will recognise me, which helps everything feel more natural and joined-up.
We can work together ahead of time to shape the right flow, plan your formalities, and even discuss how much (or how little) humour or personality you’d like me to bring. I’ll always read the room and adjust accordingly.
Because they don’t want their dad’s best mate going rogue on the mic.
Because they want a smooth, polished, stress-free night.
Because they’ve seen how awkward things can get when no one really knows what’s happening next.
And because when you’ve worked hard to plan a meaningful celebration, you deserve someone who can help hold that space - without it becoming a circus or a slideshow of bad jokes.
If you’re looking for a professional Wedding MC in Hawke’s Bay who can handle the mic with confidence and kindness - and stay sober while doing it - let’s have a chat. You can book MC services on their own, or add them alongside my celebrant role and/or on-the-day coordination.
Together, we’ll shape a day (and night) that flows beautifully, with none of the stress landing on your shoulders.
